Men's Basketball Set to Host Two SUN Conference Match-Ups This Week

LAKELAND, Fla. -  The No. 24 Southeastern University Men's basketball team returns to action this week to host two Sun Conference opponents. The Fire are 18-3 on the season and are currently in first place in the Sun Conference with a 8-1 conference record. Southeastern will host Thomas University first on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and will close the weekend against Coastal Georgia, Saturday at 7 p.m. 

 

The Thomas University Nighthawks come into this week with a 9-10 overall record and a 3-6 SUN record with their last contest resulting in a 78-58 defeat against Keiser University on January 22nd. The Nighthawks come into this contest averaging 65.4 points per game behind a 41.5% field goal percentage, 28.7% three-point percentage, while defensively averaging 29.7 rebounds per game.

 

Tim Williamson is the team's leading scorer, through 18 games played with 12.9 points per game, making 46.5% of his shots and shooting 69% from the free throw line. 

 

The Mariners currently hold a 7-10 (2-7 SUN) record on the season and recently are coming off of a 60-48 loss to Keiser University. Coastal Georgia currently averages 69.1% points per game with a 38.0 field goal percentage and a 64.4 free throw percentage. 

 

Senior Guard Jordon Parks leads the Mariners in scoring averaging 13.5 points per game through all 17 games, shooting 42.3% from the field, 33.9% from beyond the arc, and 72.9% from the free throw line. Parks also leads the team in rebounds averaging 7.3 rebounds per game. 

 

The No. 24 Fire are currently on a seven game win streak coming off of a 89-73 victory against the Florida College Falcons. They come into this week averaging 86.2 points per game with a 48.1 field goal percentage and a 37.6 three-point percentage. Southeastern are currently ranked first in the nation for three-pointers made, making 12.1 per game. The Fire are shooting the three-ball at 42.1 percent in the month of January. 

 

Six-time SUN Player of the Week, Riley Minix leads the Fire squad in almost every category including points (484), rebounds (220), and blocks (26). Reggie Mesidor has been efficient off the bench as he's the Fire's second leading scorer averaging 10.6 points per game, and leads the team in steals with 26. Jordan Gorman has been an efficient playmaker leading the team in assists with 72 and leads the Fire in three-point percentage with 47.7, averaging 9.8 points per game.
