First Place Men's Basketball Takes on SUN Competitor in the Seahawks

LAKELAND, Fla.- After securing their 15th win of the season on Saturday with a 91-85 victory over St. Thomas University, the Southeastern University men's basketball team will take on Keiser University at home on Saturday at 7 p.m.

The Seahawks of Keiser currently hold a 9-7 record (3-3 SUN) and are coming off of an 86-48 victory over Haskell Indian Nations University on Saturday and will take on Ave Maria on Thursday before the weekend matchup against the Fire. As a unit, the Seahawks are averaging 74.3 points per game behind a 44.8% from the field while shooting 38% from beyond the arc.

Core'von Lott leads the Seahawks in scoring through 15 games played with 225 points and an average of 15 points per game while Antwan Claxton comes in second in scoring with 207 points. Defensively, Antonio Spencer leads the Seahawks in rebounds with 103 and an average of 6.4 per game.

The Fire's 6-1 record in conference play places them at first place in the conference as they rank 4th in the nation in three pointers made per game with 11.1. Aided largely by their success beyond the arc, the Fire average 84.8 points per game and a field goal percentage of 47.6%. The Fire defense has been solid as well through 18 games as they ranks No. 9 in the country in total rebounds per game with 42.8.

Riley Minix has been nearly unstoppable in every facet of the game as he leads the team in points (420), points per contest (23.3), steals (21), rebounds (188), rebounds per contest (10.4), and blocks (21). His 420 points is good enough for a second place national ranking. Though averaging just 18.7 minutes per game, Reggie Mesidor comes in as the Fire's second leading scorer with 178 points while Jordan Gorman has proven to be confident from distance with a 52.3 three point percentage in conference play after going 23-44.

The Fire will look to tip the historical scale back in their direction with a win as the Seahawks hold a 20-7 record over the Fire including the 63-60 win in their last meeting in February of the 2021 season.
