Fire Women's Basketball to Host Sun Conference Contest vs. Seahawks

LAKELAND, Fla. - The No.4 Southeastern University women's basketball team returned to action last week after the quick holiday break and defeated the St. Thomas University Bobcats on January 8th 74-55. The Fire will be back in action this Saturday at The Furnace versus the Keiser University Seahawks at 5 p.m. 

 

The Keiser Seahawks currently hold an overall record of 12-6 (3-3 SUN) after dropping their last game against Grace 62-58 on New Year's Eve. As a team, the Seahawks average 69.7 points per game, shooting 40% from the field, and 64% from the free throw line. Defensively, they average 47.7 rebounds per game, 10.6 steals per game, and 3.4 blocks per game. 

 

Elise Ellison-Coons and Chiara De Virgilio both lead the way offensively for the Seahawks with Ellison-Coons leading the team in scoring averaging 11.4 points per game, shooting 49.6% from the field, and 77.8% from the free throw line (team high).  De Vigilio leads the team in three-pointers and is the team's second leading scorer with an average of 9.9 points per game, 4.6 three-pointers per game, and shooting 47.6% from beyond the arc.

 

The No. 4 Fire are currently on a 12-game winning streak as they head into this weekend with a 16-1 record and look to continue to be perfect against Sun Conference opponents. The Fire remain first in the nation in field goal percentage, second in three-point percentage, and third in assists per game.

 

Angela Perry leads the Fire in scoring with 348 points, averaging 20.5 points per game. Perry currently ranks third in the nation with field goals made going 143-243 and seventh in total points. Marta Aranda and Tahanee Bennell both lead the Fire in assists with 70 each, and averaging 4.1 assists per game.
