Box Score Cochran, GA.- Tonight's matchup between the No. 5 Southeastern University women's soccer team and the receiving votes Middle Georgia State went in favor of the Fire as they advanced their overall record to 4-1 with their 3-1 victory.
Both teams were held silent and scoreless until 39 minutes into competition when Middle Georgia grabbed the first goal of the match after managing to draw the keeper out of the goal for a one-on-one matchup with 6:43 remaining on the clock. The Fire wasted no time in grabbing back the momentum and needed only 38 more seconds of play to tie things back up.
Victoria Moran won a hard fought battle and came up with a steal from the Knights and followed it up with a cross to midfield which was met by the foot of
Naira Lopez. Lopez took an uncontested chip shot and placed her third goal of the season into the top right corner of the net to make it 1-1 with six minutes remaining before heading to the locker rooms.
Six minutes into the final 45, Lopez took a long shot from the left sideline that was met by a diving Knights goalkeeper as well as
Ciara Boal who got a shot off on the deflection, placing the ball into the lower left section of net to put the Fire ahead 2-1. The Fire would not be satisfied with their one goal lead and would go on to extend that lead in the 81
st minute when
Meja Kuurne got a touch on a
Shara Randez corner kick and snuck it into the left corner to secure the Fire's 3-1 victory.
The Fire are back in action in Georgia this Saturday, September 11
th at 3:30 p.m. as they take on the Barons of Brewton Parker.
