Volleyball Opens Play in The Furnace with Plethora of Action

LAKELAND, Fla.- After a lengthy layoff, the Southeastern University volleyball team is eager to return to action and commence play in The Furnace for the first time in 2021. The Fire will compete for the first time in 11 days tonight when they host the Florida College Falcons. This weekend, SEU hosts the NCCAA South Region kick-off.

FIRE FOCUS:
  • The Fire last competed at the Faulkner Invitational in Montgomery, where SEU went an impressive 3-1, scoring wins over Tennessee Wesleyan, Faulkner, and William Carey.
  • The youthful core of this Southeastern team has led the way statistically for the Fire thus far. Freshman outside hitter Sandy Cao leads the team in kills (121), kills per set (4.03), and has posted a .258 hitting percentage.
  • Freshman setter Alexandra Postlethwaite has posted an astounding 296 assists, averaging 8.22 per set.
  • Freshman defensive specialist Holly Kaczmarek leads SEU in digs at 205, averaging 5.54 per set.
PREVIOUS MEETINGS:
  • The Fire trail the all-time series with Florida College 7-24, however, SEU has split the last six meetings with the Falcons 3-3. This will be the two programs first meeting since the 2016 season, where the two teams split a home-and-home.
  • Southeastern is undefeated versus Pensacola Christian in the all-time series 7-0. This will be the first time the two programs have met since August 28, 2015.
  • The Fire lead the all-time series with Trinity Baptist 11-2 and have won 10-straight versus the Eagles.
  • This will be the first meeting between SEU and Toccoa Falls since October 27, 2007. The Fire lead the all-time series 13-5 and have won 13-straight versus the Screaming Eagles.
  • This will be Southeastern's first ever meeting versus Bob Jones on the volleyball court.
THE OPPONENTS:
  • Florida College has won five of its seven last matches, earning wins over Pikeville, Pensacola Christian, Montreat, and a pair of wins versus Brewton-Parker.
  • Bob Jones is a perfect 4-0 to start the year and has not seen a match go past the fourth set.
  • Pensacola Christian got in the win column for the first time this season with a three-set win over Toccoa Falls.
  • Trinity Baptist started off its season this past Saturday with a pair of three-set losses to Edward Waters and Webber International.
  • Toccoa Falls opened its season with a four-set loss to Truett McConnell.
