LAKELAND, Fla.—Southeastern won its Sun Conference men's soccer opener with a 2-1 comeback win in overtime Wednesday night.
Trailing 1-0 at halftime and having to withstand a couple of close calls which would have made the deficit two, the Fire got a goal from
Aitor Granero who ripped a shot into the near back corner in the 54
th minute to tie the match.
Just over four minutes into overtime,
Vittorio Sasso drew a foul on the left wing just outside the box resulting in a free kick. Granero's ground ball pass off the free kick was blasted by Collin Horn off the foot of a defender and into the back of the net to secure the win.
"You have to expect the ball in the box," said Horn. "We always believe in ourselves, but we need to execute better earlier to take some of the pressure off when the legs are tired late in the game."
It was Horn's second overtime winner of the season.
Carlos Curado made six saves in goal.
The Fire return to action on Saturday at Florida Memorial.
