WILLIAMSBURG, Ky.—Adversity started early for the Southeastern University football team in a 63-14 loss at the University of the Cumberlands.
The Patriots scooped up a fumble and scored from 22 yards out and built a 28-0 lead after 15 minutes of play with touchdown passes of 52, 31, and 33 yards with two of those possessions coming off of turnovers.
By halftime, the Patriots had a 42-0 advantage with a 58-yard touchdown pass and a one-yard run.
Southeastern (2-2) came out of the locker room strong, recovering a fumble on the kickoff to start the second half and on its first snap of the second half got a 38-yard touchdown pass from
Cooper Jones to
Myles Henderson. UC answered with the next 21 points with passes of 26 and 28 yards and another one-yard run.
With 1:25 left in the third, Jones connected with
Deshawn Brown for an 18-yard TD strike.
Henderson was SEU's top receiver with 73 yards on six catches. Jones was 19-of-32 for 161 yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions.
On defense,
Khalid Scott had eight tackles with one for loss.
Jake Shultz had two tackles for loss with a sack.
The Fire begin Mid-South Sun Division play next Saturday at Webber International with a 1:30 p.m. start.
