Men's Soccer Ties Knights in Intense Match

LAKELAND, Fla.- The RV Southeastern University men's soccer team battled through an eventful second half and two extra sessions with the Middle Georgia State University Knights. However, after 110 minutes of play, the match ended with a 2-2 tie between the Fire and the Knights.

The Fire dominated the score sheet in shots in the first half, outshooting the Knights 9-1, including 3-1 on frame. However, neither team found the back of the net and both teams entered the locker room scoreless at the half.

Southeastern broke the silence in the 56th minute when graduate forward Julian Hall buried a ball from James Morrissey into the back of the net to put SEU ahead 1-0. The tally was Hall's fourth of the season.

The Fire doubled their advantage in the 63rd minute after Hall played graduate midfielder Vitorrio Sasso into the box and Sasso slotted the ball past the MGSU keeper to put the Fire up 2-0. This was Sasso's first goal of the season.

Middle Georgia State answered the Fire with two late goals to knot things up with the Fire. First, James Skelton netted a goal in the 81st minute to trim the deficit to 2-1. Alvaro Elizari found the equalizer for the Knights in the 87th minute.

Despite outshooting the Knights 5-1 between two extra sessions, Southeastern was unable to secure the golden goal.

A total of 15 yellow cards were issued between the two squads over the span of the second half and overtime periods.

Southeastern is back in action next Wednesday at the SEU Soccer Complex, as the Fire host the Webber International University Warriros for their Sun Conference opener. Match time is set for 7:00 p.m.
