Fire Overcome Barons in Overtime Battle

MOUNT VERNON, Ga.- The No. 5 Southeastern University women's soccer team found themselves battling from a deficit for the majority of the day. However, the Fire showed once again they are able to play through the pressure, as they stormed back to defeat the Brewton-Parker College Barons 2-1 in overtime thanks to graduate forward Aisha Solorzano's golden goal.

The Barons struck first in the 30th minute on a goal by Kadisha Martina to take a 1-0 lead over the Fire.

Despite outshooting BPC 11-5, including 6-1 in shots on frame, in the first half, SEU would trail the Barons 1-0 heading into the locker room.

Southeastern found the equalizer in the 54th minute when senior midfielder Ciara Boal scored her second goal of the season to knot things up 1-1. Boal has now found the back of the net in consecutive matches for the Fire.

SEU and BPC remained deadlocked 1-1 after 90 minutes of play to head to an overtime session.

It was graduate forward Aisha Solorzano who found the golden goal for the Fire in the 99th minute, finishing a ball from Victoria Moran to earn Southeastern the 2-1 win. The tally was Solorzano's team-leading sixth of the season.

Up next, the Fire take on NCAA Division II Eckerd College at the SEU Soccer Complex on Friday September 24 at 4:30 p.m.
