LAKELAND, Fla. – The Southeastern University softball team looks to get back in the win column this week after going 1-3 over four games a week ago. The Fire are set to travel to Hialeah, Florida to take on Florida National on Tuesday before hosting Warner on Saturday for Senior Day.
SEU split a doubleheader with Ave Maria last week, winning game one 3-0.
Erica Stahl went 1-for-2 with two RBIs while
Ramsey Sullivan went 2-for-3.
Autumn Hunter got the start and threw a complete game, striking out seven in the process.
Southeastern ended the week with two losses to the Thomas Night Hawks, losing by scores of 7-6 and 2-1. In game one, Stahl had another good day at the plate going 4-for-4 with two more RBIs including her first career home run.
Lauren Watters contributed a 2-for-3 effort with two RBIs.
The Fire defense remains among the NAIA's best, ranking 14
th in putouts per game (20.3) and fielding percentage (.970).
Individually,
Katie Atkins and
Sam Holcomb lead the Fire in assists with 94 and 82, respectively.
Atkins also leads the Fire at the plate with a .389 batting average, eight home runs and 30 RBIs. Stahl is second on the team with a .365 batting average and a team-high ten doubles, while
Madison Williams is hitting .351 with a team best 27 stolen bases.
SEU travels to take on a Florida National squad that is 19-12 entering play this week, but have won 15 of their last 18 contests including doubleheader sweeps of Sun Conference member's St. Thomas, Keiser, and Webber International. The Conquistadors are led by Nini Underwood and Megan Johnson at the plate with Underood hitting .340 and seven doubles while Johnson leads the team with four home runs and 24 RBIs. The top arm for FNU is Natasha Trujillo who carries a 1.89 ERA through 81.1 innings of work so far this season. She has struck out 49 opposing bats while walking just 16.
The Fire won their first three games of the season against FNU earlier in 2021, winning by a combined score of 24-11 in those three matchups. SEU holds the edge in the all-time series, 3-2.
Southeastern welcomes No. 18 Warner to Lakeland for Senior Day. The Royals enter this week with a 25-13 record but have gone an even 6-6 in their previous 12 games.
Warner is 15
th in the NAIA in triples with 12 and are led by Ashton Owen who has four so far this season. WU has two batters hitting .400 or better with Alison Yawn hitting .443 and Breyonna Shell at .416. Tiffany Dodson has been one of the top pitchers in the NAIA this season, ranking first in innings pitched (170.0) and fifth in wins (19). Her ERA of 1.85 is second best in the Sun Conference.
The Fire split their previous doubleheader with Warner this season, dropping game one 3-2 before taking game two 1-0. Hunter recorded a career-high eight strikeouts in her outing in game one before picking up a save in game two. Southeastern leads the all-time series 13-11.
First pitch against the Royals is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
