Box Score 2 AVE MARIA, Fla.—Southeastern won the first game and dropped the second game of its Sun Conference doubleheader at Ave Maria Wednesday afternoon to move to 25-16 overall and 7-9 in league play.
In the top of the third,
Erica Stahl got the Fire on the board first with a two-out, two-run single.
Hannah Federico drove in the third run with a pinch-hit sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh.
That was more than enough for freshman pitcher
Autumn Hunter, who tossed a complete game shutout, allowing just four hits to improve to 13-8 on the season.
Hunter stranded seven Ave Maria base runners, including getting out of a jam in the sixth where the Gyrenes had two on and nobody out. She got the next three hitters to fly out to retire the side.
Ramsey Sullivan had two hits to pace the Fire offense.
The hosts jumped on the Fire in the second game, scoring five in the first on a bases loaded walk followed by back-to-back doubles.
Alissa Bolinger was perfect once through the Fire lineup and held SEU to five hits and struck out four of the 20 she faced.
Southeastern's best chance in the second contest came in the fourth with the bases loaded and one out after singles by
Sam Holcomb,
Madison Williams, and
Katie Atkins, but a pair of pop ups ended the threat.
The Fire return to action on Saturday at Thomas.
