Softball Wins First Two Games at Gulf Shores Invitational

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 GULF SHORES, Ala. – The Southeastern University softball team won by a score of 3-2 in their first two games at the Gulf Shores Invite to improve to 12-5 on the season.

Against No. 6 Columbia College in the first game of the day, graduate infielder Sam Holcomb broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the sixth inning with her second home run of the season. Outfielder Madison Williams added her team-high 20th RBI of the season earlier in the contest while Erica Stahl turned in a multi-hit performance with two hits and an RBI.

Freshman pitcher Autumn Hunter put together another quality outing for the Fire with her seventh complete game of the season, allowing seven hits, striking out four batters while giving up no walks.

Katie Atkins got the scoring started for Southeastern in game two against the Faulkner Eagles with her team-high fifth home run of the season in the first inning. Kaley Sarasty came around to score the second SEU run of the game when she scored on a sacrifice fly by Haleigh Harrell.

It came down to the seventh inning again for the second straight game. Holcomb got in scoring position after singling and stealing second base. After a single by Williams, Atkins drove in Holcomb for the game-winning run.

Williams and Atkins each recorded multiple hits against Faulkner to get the Fire the victory.

Payton Thomas recorded her second complete game of the season and allowed two runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and no walks.

The Fire are back in action in Gulf Shores as they play Texas A&M-Texarkana and Williams Baptist College. Game times are scheduled for 10:00 am and 2:30 pm.
