Lakeland, Fla.- Defending Sun Conference Champions, the Southeastern University women's soccer team, took on the NCAA Division II University of Tampa tonight in an exhibition as they prepare for the NAIA National Tournament that takes place from April 15
th to April 17
th. The 15-1-1 Fire dropped the exhibition by a score of 2-1.
The Fire held the Spartans scoreless until right before the conclusion of the first half when Hannah Kirkpatrick found the back of the net in the 40
th minute for the Spartans to go up 1-0 going into halftime. Coming out the locker room, Kirkpatrick netted her second goal of the contest in the 69
th minute to go up 2-0 over the Fire. After a yellow card was issued to the Spartans in the 70
th minute,
Naira Lopez brought the score within one on a made penalty kick but the Fire were unable to net two more to claim the victory. The Spartan defense held the Fire to only two shots on goal in the contest with the Fire defense holding the Spartans to six shots on goal.
Holly Eddins ended the matchup with three saves with Michaela Owen also recording a save.
