Bats Push Softball over Florida National

LAKELAND, Fla.—The Southeastern University softball team had another big day at the plate to finish a three-game sweep of Florida National, winning Saturday's game 7-2.

Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the second, senior Madison Williams hit her second grand slam in 24 hours to give the Fire the lead. An RBI single by Sam Holcomb down the left field line scored Haleigh Harrel to make it a three-run lead. Katie Atkins drove in Holcomb with a single to center field to cap off a six-run inning.

"Being on the left side (as a slapper) has helped me on the right side seeing the ball a lot better," said Williams. "This group of girls is so much fun and helps me stay loose and have fun which helps me at the plate a ton."

Holcomb finished the game 2-for-4 and Atkins was 2-for-3.

Southeastern added its final run in the third when Britt Robinson scored on a wild pitch.

After allowing two runs on three hits in the first inning, freshman Autumn Hunter worked six scoreless innings, allowing just six more hits.

"That's huge for Autumn to bounce back both days," said coach Kayla Watkins. "It's been fun to see her improve with her precision and how she's thinking is exciting thinking about where that's going."

Ramsey Sullivan was 2-for-2 with a run scored and threw out a runner at second attempting to steal.

"That helps our young pitching staff a ton to have the offense going the way that it is," said Watkins. "It changes the confidence level tremendously and we're not just hitting the ball here and there, we are squaring up balls a lot."

The Fire return to action on Friday when they host Campbellsville for a doubleheader.
