Men's Basketball Ready to Continue TSC Slate

LAKELAND, Fla.— Sun Conference action continues for the Southeastern University men's basketball team this week as they travel to West Palm Beach to take on Keiser University on Thursday, February 4th before hosting Coastal Georgia Saturday, February 6th at 7:00 pm.

The Fire couldn't get back in the win column last week, suffering two more losses to Sun Conference foes. SEU ran out of gas in the 80-67 loss to Warner on Thursday and never got in a rhythm against Florida Memorial on Saturday, losing 65-52.

Southeastern was able to trim their deficits to single digits within the final two minutes of both games before the Royals and Lions pulled away late.

Riley Matticks and Alaowei Talent-Fitzgerald turned in solid performances last week, each leading the team in scoring with Matticks recording 20 points against Warner while Talent-Fitzgerald notched 13 against Florida Memorial on six-of-ten shooting from the field.

Matticks currently leads the team and is fourth in the Sun Conference in assists per game, dishing out 3.1 assists per contest.

Even through recent struggles, the Fire remain one of the top defensive teams in the conference, allowing only 71.1 PPG.

Southeastern will visit the third-place team in the conference on Thursday when they play Keiser who enters this week with a 9-6 record against TSC opponents and are 13-8 overall. Guard Corevon Lott and forward Antwan Claxton are key players for the Seahawks. Lott leads the conference in scoring with 18.8 PPG while Claxton leads the team with 6.3 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.8 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game.

The Fire will be looking for their first win against the Seahawks as they have taken the first two games of the season series. Last time Southeastern was in West Palm Beach they lost 72-70 when a shot at the buzzer came up short. The most recent matchup between the two squads saw Keiser win 90-71 in The Furnace. Lott and Claxton both came up big for KU as they each poured in 18 points and grabbed six rebounds.

SEU will see another opponent for the third time this season on Saturday when they host Coastal Georgia at 7:00 pm. The Mariners (8-8, 6-7 TSC) are coming off a 94-71 loss to Keiser and are scheduled to play St. Thomas and Webber International before making the trip down to Lakeland. Senior guards Jordon Parks and Vidmantas Kaciuska lead the Mariners. Parks averages 15.4 points and 8.6 rebounds per game while Kaciuska leads the team and is second in the conference with 3.6 assists per game.

Southeastern has split the first two meetings this year with Coastal Georgia. Last time out the Mariners took down the Fire 78-67 in The Furnace. Elijah Goodman had a career outing for Coastal Georgia, dropping 31 points after not scoring in double-digits in his first six games of the season. SEU currently leads 5-4 in the all-time series.
