LAKELAND, Fla.—After splitting two doubleheaders a week ago the Southeastern University softball team are set to travel to Jacksonville for another doubleheader against Trinity Baptist College on Thursday, February 25
th starting at 1:00 pm.
Against No. 12 William Carey the Fire won game two 8-3 after getting shutout 3-0 in game one. A four-run fourth inning helped the Fire win game two.
Madison Williams singled home
Ramsey Sullivan to kick things off and came around to score on sac fly by
Kaley Sarasty.
Katie Atkins capped off the inning with a solo home run to left field.
Dominant pitching and consistent hitting paved the way for the Fire's 9-0 win in game one against Freed-Hardeman. Freshman
Autumn Hunter tossed six shutout innings and struck out three while the Fire scored in every inning except the third. Williams, Sullivan, and
Haleigh Harrell all recorded multi-hit games while Atkins hit another home run.
The Fire remain the top team in the NAIA in fielding percentage at .991 and are second in total assists with 106. SEU is also ranked second with 93 total hits.
Individually, Hunter is ranked first in the NAIA in wins (5) and innings pitched (45.1). Atkins ranks third with her four home runs on the year while Williams is fourth with 15 base hits.
Sam Holcomb carried a ten-game hit streak into game two against Freed-Hardeman is sixth in the country with six stolen bases.
Trinity Baptist enters play this week with an 0-7 record and hosts fellow TSC member Ave Maria before welcoming Southeastern on Thursday. The Eagles are 0-3 this season against Sun Conference opponents with two losses to Coastal Georgia and one to Thomas University. Freshman infielder Jordan Hartung leads the teams with eight hits through their first seven games.
