Women's Basketball Begins Conference Tournament Play

Lakeland, Fla.- The regular season conference champions, the Southeastern University women's basketball team, will look to add a Sun Conference Tournament championship as they open up tournament play on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at home against Warner University.
 
The Fire clinched their sixth consecutive regular season conference title back on February 6th with a 101-41 victory over the Coastal Georgia Mariners. The last competition for the Fire was against Thomas University on Saturday where the Fire walked away with a 72-20 victory and ended the regular season with a perfect 20-0 conference record.
 
Warner University comes into the conference tournament in the eight spot with an overall record of 7-20 and 2-18 in conference play with their only two conference wins both coming against Thomas University.
 
The last matchup between these two teams took place on January 28th when the Fire defeated the Royals 92-39. Junior point guard Bekki Kalaydjiev had a season high 22 points against the Royals after going 8-9 from the field and 4-5 from the three point arc.
 
The Fire currently rank number one in the nation in total steals with 365 and number two in the nation in scoring margin (29.3). They also hold a .319 field goal percentage which ranks number three in the nation.
 
Freshman Haley Gantt has been the Royals leading scorer this season and has recorded 289 points and averages 12.6 per game. She also has a team high 198 rebounds.
