DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Southeastern had many strong finishes in the Embry-Riddle First Chance/Last Chance 2020 meet. While no team scores were recorded, the Fire took advantage of the opportunity to get another competition under their belt before the NAIA Indoor National Championships.
On the women's side,
Amaya Kier took first place in the 60 meter hurdles, running a time of 9.04 seconds. She is currently 15th nationally in the event.
Michelle Tierney placed third with a time of 10.06.
Jaqual Bush won the 100 meter dash, posting a time of 11.85 seconds.
Shakera Thompson finished right behind her, running the sprint in 12.35 seconds.
Briana Ramos placed fourth overall, running a time of 12.64 seconds.
Southeastern also took first and second place in the women's 200 meter dash.
Shaniya Berry crossed first in 25.44 seconds and
Oluwafikayomi Lawrence finished second with a time of 25.61.
Shaniya Berry won the 60 meter dash in a time of 7.68 seconds, which ranks eighth nationally.
Briana Ramos and
Shakera Thompson came in at third and fourth in the event, Ramos running a time of 7.831 seconds and Thompson coming in at 7.834 seconds.
In field events,
Princess Nwankwo took first in the women's weight throw, marking a throw at 14.55 meters.
Prosperity Wright,
Miyah Ford, and
LaDaijahnae Miller placed second, third, and fourth in the women's triple jump. They finished with jumps of 11.55 meters, 11.52 meters, and 10.75 meters. Wright is now 11th nationally and Ford 14th.
On the men's side,
Joseph Taylor won the 400 meter dash in a time of 49.15 seconds, which currently stands 16th-best nationally. Taylor also finished second in the 60 meter dash, finishing in 6.88 seconds.
In the men's 400 meter hurdles, the Fire swept the podium.
Davonte Vanterpool crossed first with a time of 58.40 seconds, then
Vincent Lopez finished close behind in 58.48 seconds.
Jalan Sturkie finished third with a time of 1:01.47.
Glenn Rogers finished second in the 60 meter hurdles, recording a time of 8.20 seconds, which ranks 13th nationally.
In field events,
Giovanni Allen and
DeMarco Lemons took first and second in the men's shot put. Allen threw 13.22 meters and Lemons recorded a throw of 12.74 meters.
In the men's weight throw, Allen and Lemons also took first and second place. Allen recorded at 13.39 meters and Lemons finished with a throw at 12.60 meters.
Kenneth Winters won the men's javelin throw, recording a throw at 50.36 meters.
Both the men's and women's track & field teams are heading to the NAIA Indoor National Championships in Yankton, S.D. on March 4th. The top 16 marks in each event will advance to nationals.
