Thomasville, GA.- The Southeastern University men's basketball team dropped to 12-15 on the season and 6-14 in Sun Conference play after their 59-50 loss to the Night Hawks of Thomas University.

The Night Hawks opened up the game with a four-point lead over the Fire but after a good three pointer by
Reggie Mesidor and a quick eight points by
Devon Ford, the Fire were able to regain the lead 11-6 with 14:18 remaining in the half. Two more three pointers by
Karl Jeanty and
Riley Matticks put the Fire up by nine with a little under 10 left before the half. Two made free throws by Matticks and another good layup by Mesidor gave the Fire their largest lead of the half after going up 23-12 with 7:55 on the clock. The Night Hawks then managed to go on a 6-0 run in the last six minutes to tie the game at 23 going into the half. Ford recorded 10 points in only nine minutes of play in the first half after going 5-6 from the field.

The Fire struggled to maintain their first half momentum in the second half as the Night Hawks grabbed a 30-23 lead out of the locker room. Alaowei Fitzgerald brought the score back within two with a good three pointer off the bench with 15:16 on the clock. Five made free throws for the Night Hawks within two minutes added to the 43-31 Fire deficit but two made field goals and a free throw by Fitzgerald brought the score to 43-37 with just under 10 to play.
Sean Shore recorded the next four Fire points but the Night Hawks were able to remain control of the game for the remaining eight minutes. The Fire seemed to grab some momentum in the final minute of play when Matticks managed a breakaway resulting in a good three pointer but the Fire were unable to combat their nine point deficit in the remaining minute giving the Night Hawks the 59-50 victory.

Ford led the fire with 11 points while Matticks ended just two rebounds short of a double-double with 10 points and eight rebounds. Mesidor also ended the contest with 10 points and seven rebounds.

The Fire have clinched a spot in their conference tournament next week and will play at Warner on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
