Lakeland, Fla. - The Southeastern University softball team will host two doubleheader matchups this week at the SEU Softball field against William Carey University, Thursday at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. and against Freed-Hardeman University, Friday at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
The Fire are currently 4-3 on the season and recently came off a 1-1 split with 11th ranked Campbellsville University. The Fire have a team batting average of .335, team ERA of 2.75, and have brought in 69 runs on the season.
Katie Atkins leads the team in batting average with .435 and is tied for first in runs scored with five. Sam Holcomb leads the team in hits with 11, and is also tied for first in runs scored with five, and has a batting average of .423. Madison Williams has a team high 11 RBI's with a .417 batting average, and three runs scored.
Autumn Hunter is 4-1 with a 2.38 ERA.
The William Carey Crusaders currently sit at 0-2 with losses to LSU-Alexandria and Central Baptist College. The Crusaders are coming off a 14-3 season in 2020. They had a team batting average of .340 with 98 runs scored, and a team ERA of 1.95. Dee Dee West led the Crusaders in runs scored with 18, had a batting average of .373, 23 hits, and nine RBI's. The Crusaders have met with the Fire in the past and are 3-1 in those match-ups.
The Freed-Hardeman Lions sit currently at 2-0 recording both wins against Lyon College. The Lions' have a team batting average of .306, five runs scored, four RBI's, and a team ERA of zero with a back to back shutout on the year. Cassie Hayes leads the way for the Lions with two runs scored, three hits, and a single RBI on the year. In 2020 Hayes recorded seven runs, 12 hits, and a single RBI.
