Women's Basketball Heads to Louisiana for Weekend Contests

LAKELAND, Fla.- After a 2-0 week with wins coming against Webber International and Warner University, the No. 4 ranked Southeastern University women's basketball team will travel to New Orleans, LA. for two weekend matchups starting with No. 23 ranked Loyola University on Friday at 6:30 p.m. and concluding with a contest against LSU-Alexandria on Saturday at 2 p.m.
 
The Wolf Pack of Loyola currently holds an overall record of 6-2 with both of their losses coming in overtime. As a team, the Wolf Pack averages 76.6 points per game behind a 43.4 field goal percentage while they hold an average of 41.5 rebounds per game defensively. Senior guard, Tay Cannon leads the team in points with 121 for an average of 15.1 per game while Sandra Cannady is the team's leading rebounder with a total of 56 and an average of eight per game.
 
The Generals of LSU-Alexandria are still searching for their first win but are coming off of their best performance of the year after falling to the receiving votes Oklahoma City in two overtimes by a score of 100-93. The Generals have struggled from the field through their five contests, posting a percentage of 37.4. Kelsey Thaxton has recorded a team high 66 points through 143 minutes and averages 13.2 per contest. Defensively, Brittany Smith holds the team lead in rebounds with 25.
 
The Fire recently moved up one spot in the NAIA Top 25 Coaches Poll to No. 4 as they come into the weekend 9-1 (5-0 SUN) and ranking in the top 10 in multiple statistical categories. As a team, the Fire are averaging 83.2 points per game with a 47.9 field goal percentage but have seen a majority of their success from behind the arc with a 40.7 three point percentage which ranks first nationally and an average of 11.1 three point shots per game.
 
Graduate transfer Angela Perry leads the Fire squad in points (219), field goal percentage (58.2%), points per game (19.9), blocks (13), and rebounds (81). Marta Aranda has been a large contributor to the Fire's success from beyond the arc as she currently holds a 46.9 three point percentage after going 23-49 from three point range and also leads the team in assists with 37 while Rebecca Cook leads the Fire in steals with 27 and comes in at second in rebounds with 71.
