Fire Remain Undefeated in Sun Conference Play After Defeating Warriors

BABSON PARK, Fla. - The No. 4 Southeastern University Women's Basketball Team ended the Warriors late game rally, 72-64 to improve to 8-1 on the season. 

 

The Fire were tied 9-9 in the first quarter against the Warriors in the first five minutes of play. Coming out of a timeout, the Fire proceeded to go on a 12-4 run to close out the quarter to lead 21-13. The Warriors put on great runs on both ends of the court to cut the lead within four with three minutes remaining. Leading 33-29, the Fire responded by going on another run before the half making 5-of-6 free throws to go up 43-31. 

 

The Fire would lead by as many as 17 points in the fourth quarter with 2:04 remaining in the game before the Warriors would go on a 9-0 run. Southeastern was able to hold off the late game rally as time expired. 

 

As a team, SEU shot 45.6% from the field, 34.6% from behind the arc, and 91.7% from the free throw line. The Fire were 100% from the free throw line in every quarter besides the second where they shot 5-6 at 83.3%

 

Marta Aranda led the way as she scored 19 points, making five three-pointers, shooting 62.5% from three-point land. Rebecca Cook led the team in rebounds with 12, tied the lead in assists with four and added seven points. 

 

Southeastern returns to action this week as they will host the Warner University Royals this Saturday, December 4th at The Furnace at 5 P.M. Tickets for this weekend's matchup can be found at seufire.com/tickets
