Career and Season Records Lift the Fire over Trinity Christian

LAKELAND, Fla.- With their 97-85 victory over the Trinity Christian College Trolls, the Southeastern University men's basketball team advanced their record to 12-3 on the year.

Riley Minix got the Fire on the board quickly with a good three pointer only 15 seconds into the contest while Sean Shore registered the next seven Fire points to bring the score to 10-5 with 16:15 remaining. Within the a minute and a half, the Trolls went up by five over the Fire but a three pointer by Joshua Blazquez was immediately followed by a steal and assist by Blazquez, giving the Fire back the lead with a 21-20 score. Sam Brown would then record the next six Fire points as the Fire began to pull away from the Trolls, rounding out the half with the 57-34 lead. As a team, the Fire shot 63.9 from the field and went 6-10 from distance. Minix ended the first half with 18 points while Brown followed right on his heals with 15 of his own.

Coming out of the locker room with a 57-34 lead, the Fire would not let up as they would go on to add another 40 points, largely due to Minix' career high performance which saw 23 points in the second half alone. On top of the stellar offensive performance, Minix also led the team in rebounds with 13.

With the 41 point effort, Minix also surpassed 1,000 career points and when asked about the record Minix stated, "It means a lot. To have a University and a team that gave me the chance to pursue my dream of playing college basketball means a lot to me. I know not everyone gets this chance and I am very grateful."

Brown also had a record breaking night after dropping 17 points for a new season high while also collecting five rebounds.

Riley Matticks ended the contest with a team high five assists.

The Fire will next face off against Spring Arbor University on December 22nd at 2 p.m. at home.
