Wrestling Heads to Reno for Dual and Tournament of Champions

LAKELAND, Fla.—Southeastern will get back to the mats this weekend as it heads to Nevada for a dual match against Southern Oregon Friday night and the Reno Tournament of Champions on Sunday.

The Fire have won all four of its dual matches this season with just 31 total team points against and are ranked sixth in the most recent NAIA Coaches' Top 20 Poll. Individually, the Fire have 10 wrestlers ranked in their respective weight classes.

Sal Silva leads the team in wins with 12 and is unbeaten in his dual matches. Stephen Kelle has posted a 9-4 record thus far, picking up eight wins in tournaments.

SEU head coach Travis Patrick will be taking on his alma mater, having wrestled for the Raiders before going into coaching. Southern Oregon is 3-3 on the season with their losses coming to teams currently ranked in or just outside of the Top 20.

The Raiders have Top 20 wrestlers in each of the first two weight classes with Francisco Barrera 16th at 125 and Evan Potter 16th at 133. This will be the second time the Fire and Raiders have faced off in a dual with SEU winning 22-19 during the 2019 NWCA National Duals in Louisville.

The Reno Tournament of Champions will feature 26 different college programs and is a relative who's-who of NAIA and NCAA wrestling. Top ranked Grand View headlines the NAIA contingent along with Southern Oregon, Eastern Oregon, Corban, Embry-Riddle (Ariz.), Vanguard, Warner Pacific, and Menlo.

Other programs participating include Oklahoma State, Stanford, Wyoming, and Pacific. Understandable how it got the moniker "Toughest Tournament in the USA."
