Box Score NEW ORLEANS, La- The No. 4 ranked Southeastern University women's basketball team grabbed their 10th win of the season after their 65-60 win over the No. 23 ranked Wolf Pack of Loyola-New Orleans.
Marta Aranda got the scoring started with her first three pointer of the contest but the Wolf Pack followed it up with a six point run to take the 6-3 lead in the first quarter. Another three, this time from
Gabby Suarez, aided the Fire in regaining and eventually keeping the lead for the remaining 12 minutes before the half. The Fire continued to use their strong distance shooting to their advantage in the second quarter and finished the first half going 5-11 from distance, three coming from the hands of Aranda, giving them a 31-20 lead going into the locker room.
In the third period, the Wolf Pack managed to bring the contest within four but a quick seven point run by
Angela Perry secured a nine point lead for the Fire heading into the final 10 minutes of play. Three consecutive three pointers by Loyola quickly erased an 11 point Fire lead as they tied the contest at 56 with 4:05 remaining.
Josselin Geer then recaptured the lead for the Fire with a good shot from beyond the arc as Perry and
Rebecca Cook rounded out the 65-60 victory with two made free throws each.
The Fire ended the night shooting 80% from the free throw line after going 8-10.
Perry recorded a season high 34 points and 13 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season.
Marta Aranda was the Fire's second leading scorer with 13 points including a 3-7 effort from three point range.
SEU will continue play in New Orleans tomorrow as they take on LSU-Alexandria at 2 p.m. EST.
