LAKELAND, Fla.- The second-seeded Southeastern University women's soccer team stood tall on their home pitch Tuesday night, edging the third-seeded SCAD-Savannah Bees 2-1 in The Sun Conference Tournament Semifinal. With the win, the Fire earned their six-straight appearance in the SUN Final.
The Fire dictated the vast majority of possession in the first half, holding the Bees to just one shot while generating 14 of their own through the first 45 minutes of play.
SEU struck first in the 21st minute, when sophomore midfielder
Makayla Peddycoart received a short pass in the middle of the field and rocketed one in the upper 90 from 30 yards out. the goal was Peddycoart's second of the season.
Southeastern took a 1-0 lead over SCAD into the half.
The Fire took a 2-0 lead when graduate forward
Aisha Solorzano picked the ball away from a Bees' defender and finished the ball all the way to the goal and slotted it past the Bees' keeper in the 70th minute.
The Bees made things interesting in the 78th minute, where Sydney Chura netted her 19th goal of the season off a through ball from Ines Sommer.
Fire senior goalkeeper
Holly Eddins made three crucial saves in the remaining three minutes to help preserve the victory. Eddins logged a total of seven saves on the match.
SEU hosts the fourth-seeded St. Thomas University Bobcats for The Sun Conference Tournament Championship this Friday at 7:00 p.m. inside the SEU Soccer Complex.
