Box Score The #4 Southeastern University men's soccer team fell short in the SUN Conference Semifinal after losing to undefeated #1 St. Thomas University Bobcats 3-1 in Miami Gardens this Tuesday.
The Fire defense came out strong in the first half with help from keeper and recently named SUN Champion of Character Carlos Curado and his six saves, three within the first two minutes of play. The lone goal allowed by the Fire was a shot by the Bobcats that was accidently tipped in by a Southeastern player. The Fire offense took great strides in the first half of play with four shots and three on goal, but could not finish and went into the half down 1-0.Â
The Bobcats attempted 13 shots in the second half with two successful goals in the 66th and 81st. With St. Thomas now up 3-0, Eduardo Venutolo Joshua Ruckdeschel and Colin Horn lead the Fire's venture to get on the board with four, four, and two shots respectively. With less that two minutes left, Eduardo Venutolo netted the ball to give the Fire their first goal of the game. The start of the comeback was unfortunately too late, leading to a final of 3-1 St. Thomas.
Southeastern finished its 2021 season with a 9-5-5 record.
