LAKELAND, Fla.—Southeastern won its third consecutive 3-0 match and fourth consecutive overall, knocking off Johnson University (Fla.) in a non-conference contest Tuesday night.
The Fire (21-11) got off to a quick start and hit .545 as a team with 13 kills and one error on 22 attempts to cruise to a 25-10 first set victory.
Johnson (5-11) made things interesting in the second, taking advantage of a couple of SEU miscues and a pair of aces to take an early 4-1 lead. The Fire responded with the next eight points and took a 9-4 advantage with three of those points coming on kills by
Danielle White. The Suns refused to go quietly and actually regained the lead at 20-19. Two kills by
Baylee Warneke, three attack errors by JUFL, and an ace by
Grace Petty helped the Fire to a 25-21 win in the second.
The Suns started strong in the third as well, going up 7-4 but the Fire were able to get three straight points to tie things up. Leading 8-7, the Fire built an 8-3 run to take control of the set and the match and win 25-15.
Sandy Cao posted a team-best 10 kills with a .333 attacking percentage. The freshman added two aces and 11 digs to the winning effort as well.
Alexandra Postlethwaite and
Emily Eurice had 12 assists each.
On defense,
Holly Kaczmarek added 11 digs.
The Fire return to Sun Conference play Wednesday night at Webber International at 7 p.m.
