Women’s Soccer Upset in Opening Round Semi

MONTECITO, Calif.—The season came to a close for the Southeastern University women's soccer team with a 3-0 loss in the NAIA National Championship Opening Round semifinal to Marymount California University.

Southeastern (15-4) came out strong, nearly scoring on a shot by Aisha Solorzano that was tipped just over the crossbar by Marymount keeper Luz Lopez less than two minutes into the game.

The Mariners used a free kick in the 27th minute by Elise Padilla to take a 1-0 lead. Just 1:47 later, keeper Holly Eddins was given a red card, sending the Fire to 10 players on the field. Nevertheless, SEU was able to keep the deficit to one at the end of the half.

Just over eight minutes into the second, the Mariners scored to take a 2-0 lead, and made it 3-0 less than four minutes later.

The Fire generated just two shots on goal in each half and had five corner kick opportunities in the match.

In relief, Kirsten Sharma made two saves.
