LAKELAND, Fla.- The No. 5 nationally ranked Southeastern University women's basketball team will have the opportunity to bounce back from their first loss of the season last week as they take on the Ave Maria University Gyrenes on Saturday at 2 p.m. in The Furnace.

The Gyrenes have collected two wins through five games thus far and will open up Sun Conference play this week with matchups against Webber International on Thursday followed by a contest against the Fire to end the week. As a team, AMU has put up an average of 67.8 points per game and a .383 field goal percentage. Behind the arc, the Gyrenes have managed a .243 three point percentage while averaging 13.8 free throws made per game for a free throw percentage of .605. Defensively, the team has totaled 228 rebounds (12.4 per game) and 12 blocks (2.4 per game). Casey Humphrey and Lavariah Armstead have combined for 42% of the Gyrene points with Humphrey recording 71 and Armstead registering 70 while Colleen Shanahan coming down with a team leading 46 rebounds.

The 4-1 Fire are averaging 79 points through five games with a field goal percentage of 47.6 and rank No. 7 nationally in three pointers made per game with 10.4. Senior
Angela Perry leads the Fire in field goal percentage (61.9) and points per game (18) while also registering 7.8 rebounds per game and ranks No. 6 nationally in field goals with 39.
Rebecca Cook is coming off of a week highlighted by a double-double against Reinhardt where she registered 14 points and 11 rebounds in the Fire's 92-76 victory.

The last matchup between these two Sun Conference teams went in favor of the Fire in dominating fashion as they took down the Gyrenes by a score of 101-48 in February of the 2021 season to advance their winning streak to 12 over AMU.
