After a 21-0 road win against Webber International, the Southeastern University Football team looks to face Ave Maria University in their second home game of the season at Victory Field this Saturday at 7:00 pm.
The Ave Maria Gyrenes are currently 1-4 on the season with two losses, in particular, coming from top-twenty-five teams Georgetown (42-10) and Reinhardt (40-16). They are on a two-loss losing streak and have not managed to win an away game this season. Shane O'Brien and Dominic Morgan are two key players to the Gyrenes' defense with 24 and 12 tackles along with 11 and 22 assists, respectively. Quarterback Will Tate has produced 803 passing yards and 9 touchdowns this season with help from running back Joshua Marion with 147 rushing yards on the season.
The Fire moved to 3-2 on the season after blanking now 0-4 Webber International 21-0 in the Sun Conference opener this past Saturday at the Warrior Turf Field. Quarterback Cooper Jones averages 203.3 passing yards per game and was 21 for 35 in last week's game against the Warriors. Lorine Parker leads the Fire in rushing with 376 yards on the season and averaging 94 per game. Wide receiver Myles Henderson has helped the Fire's receiving game with 24 receptions totaling 265 yards on the season and averaging 66.3 yards per game. Defensively, Marc Viechec had 10 tackles and a sack at last week's game totaling 26 tackles on the season followed closely behind by Khalid Scott with 25.
The Fire have won six out of the last eight games against the Gyrenes. The two losses were in 2014 and 2018 and were both within a three-point margin. Southeastern is currently on a three-game win streak versus Ave Maria and is undefeated against the Gyrenes at Victory Field.
