LAKELAND, Fla.- The No. 10 Southeastern University women's soccer team shut out the Webber International University Warriors 3-0 on Senior Night at the SEU Soccer Complex Thursday night.
"It was fun to watch each of the seniors go out tonight and impact the game in their own way," shared SEU head coach
Caleb Roberts. "Our team did a great job of transitioning from celebrating our seniors to building a rhythm on the field early."
The Fire out-shot the Warriors 17-12 and held the advantage in shots on frame 8-6.
After a quiet start to the match, the Fire struck in the 15th minute when freshman right winger
Ramsey Watkins slotted a beautiful over-the-top ball from senior center back
Gabriela Labrador far post to put SEU up 1-0.
Watkins' goal proved to be the difference heading into the locker room, as Southeastern led Webber International 1-0 at the half. The shot total between the two teams was even at the intermission 6-6.
It did not take SEU long to grow its advantage in the second half, as junior midfielder
Hanna Ryberg hammered a deflected shot off the toe of graduate forward
Aisha Solorzano into the back of the net to place the Fire ahead 2-0.
Labrador continued her excellent Senior Night with a goal in the 71st minute, where she buried a free kick from 35 yards out into the top shelf to push SEU to a 3-0 lead over WIU.
"We really put in a total team effort tonight," commented Labrador. "To be able to score a goal on Senior Night and celebrate with my teammates was really heartwarming for me."
Southeastern senior goalkeeper
Holly Eddins had a dynamic Senior Night of her own, logging nine saves in the full-90 shutout.
The Fire conclude the regular season this Saturday in Lake Wales versus the Warner University Royals. Match time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
