Box Score GREAT FALLS, MONT. - To kick off the 2021-2022 season, the Southeastern Fire Women's Basketball team defeated the University of Providence Argonauts 91-68. SEU got off to a quick start and never looked back. Southeastern took an early 13-6 lead within the first four minutes of the contest. The Argonauts rallied back, going on a 7-0 run to tie the game 13-13. The game remained close for the remainder of the quarter and ended the first with a score of the Fire leading 23-19.
The Fire started the next quarter hot and continued to extend their lead, and were able to pull away and lead as many as 12. The Argonauts were able to cut the deficit to ten before the buzzer to head into the half trailing SEU 45-35.
The Fire continued to stretch their lead throughout the remainder of the game, outscoring Providence 27-13 in the third. The Fire added another 19 points in the fourth to ultimately secure the 23-point victory.
Southeastern shot 51.5% from the field, 48.4% beyond the arc, and 85.7% from the free throw line.
Collectively, SEU had a team total of 29 assists and forced the Argonauts to turn the ball over 20 times, giving the Fire 27 points just off of turnovers.
Marta Aranda finished with 17 points, 15 of them coming from behind the arc. Aranda shot five of eight from the three point line and added three assists.
Southeastern had five total players score in the double digits. Angela Perry with 17, Raegan Linster with 12, Leilah Vigil with 12, and Haley Howarth with 10.
The Fire return to action this week on their journey through Montana this Saturday, October 23rd at Carroll College at 9 P.M. Eastern.
