Women's Soccer Takes on Bees and Sand Sharks this Week

LAKELAND, Fla.- The No. 10 ranked Southeastern University women's soccer team will face off against two Sun Conference competitors this week starting with a trip to Savannah, Ga. to take on the receiving votes SCAD Bees on Thursday at 7 p.m. The Fire will then travel back home for a matchup against the University of South Carolina Beaufort on Saturday at 12 p.m.
 
The Bees currently hold a record of 9-4-1 and 4-1-1 in Sun Conference play and will come into Thursday's match with a three game winning streak including a 3-0 win over Webber International in their last competition. Through 14 games, the Bees have netted 47 goals which comes out to an average of 3.4 goals per match and have given up only 16 goals to their opponents. Sydney Chura has made a remarkable freshman campaign for the Bees as she has recorded a team high 12 goals and eight assists and ranks No. 6 nationally in shots with 70 with another freshman Abigail Siddall registering 10 goals of her own. The Fire took down the Bees 3-1 in their last meeting in the 2019 season but still trail the Bees in the all-time record of 4-5-1.
 
The USCB Sand Sharks come into this week with a 9-5-1 record (3-2-1 TSC) which includes seven shutouts through 15 games and is coming off of a 0-0 tie in two overtimes on Saturday against Warner University. As a team, the Sand Sharks have found the back of the net 76 times for an average of 5.1 goals per match while the Sand Shark defense has allowed only 19 goals. Mari Kalvatn leads the USCB offense with 15 goals through as many games which ranks her No. 10 nationally in goals while also recording 8 assists. The Fire and Sand Sharks met three times last season including a 3-2 double overtime victory by the Fire in Hardeeville and a 1-0 Fire victory at home in the Sun Conference tournament.
 
Coming into the week with a 9-3 (3-2 TSC) record, the Fire have outscored their opponents 33-16 for an average of 2.75 goals per game and a .549 shot on goal percentage. As the reigning Sun Conference Offensive Player of the Week, Solorzano has been a part of 17 goals for the Fire this season after finding the back of the net 10 times and assisting on seven. Graduate transfer Shara Randez has also been a playmaker for the Fire squad with six assists and four goals. Goalkeeper Holly Eddins has faced 52 shots and come up with 31 saves for a save percentage of .660.
