JACKSONVILLE, Fla.—Despite a strong challenge from Trinity Baptist in the second set, Southeastern came away with a 3-0 win in its non-conference volleyball match Thursday afternoon.
The Fire (16-10) jumped out to a 7-0 lead thanks to four aces from
Alexandra Postlethwaite, and eventually a 13-1 advantage in the first. SEU registered 11 kills and just three errors on 27 attacks to come away with a 25-11 win in the first.
Things changed a bit in the second as the Eagles (0-16) won the first four rallies of the set and built a five-point lead at four different points in the match. Trailing 17-12, the Fire ripped off the next eight points, getting two kills each from
Chloe Rhodes and
Emily Eurice to take a 20-17 advantage and come away with a 25-20 win, getting two more kills from Rhodes in the final four rallies.
In the third, the Fire got out to a 12-1 lead getting four kills from Amelia Harding and three more from
Kennedy Jones. As a team, Southeastern hit .536 with 17 kills on 28 attempts with just two errors and came away with a 25-7 win to close the match.
Sandy Cao had a team-best eight kills with a .412 attacking percentage and added 10 digs. Harding finished with seven kills and assisted on a block. Postlethwaite had 24 assists and Eurice added 11.
The Fire return to Sun Conference play on Saturday at home against Keiser at 2 p.m.
