LEBANON, Tenn.—In its first match of 2021, the Fire lost a hard-fought match at Cumberland University by the count of 19-15.
The Fire won four matches, getting bonus points from the start at 133 with
Xavier Williamson needing just 25 seconds to record a win by pin. After droping the next two bouts,
Jaquan English bumped up to 157 and recorded a 6-0 decision to put the Fire back up, 9-6.
The Phoenix got bonus points at 165 in a win by major decision, but
Coleman Bryant got the Fire back on track at 174 with a 6-3 win and a 12-10 lead with four matches left.
At 184, the Fire lost in sudden victory, but freshman
Trillyon Fils-Aime pulled off a 2-1 win in the first tiebreaker and put SEU back on top 15-13.
Cumberland got a 3-1 win at 285 and a 5-2 win at 125 to win the dual.
The Fire return to action a week from Saturday at No. 2 Life University.
