Men's Basketball Looking to Get Back in Win Column

LAKELAND, Fla.—The Southeastern University men's basketball team looks to get back in the win column this week after dropping four of their last five. The Fire are set to host Great Lakes Christian on Wednesday at 5:30 pm before returning to Sun Conference action Saturday when Webber International comes to The Furnace at 4:00 pm.

Last time out, SEU couldn't keep up with the hot shooting displayed by Coastal Georgia in the 78-67 defeat. The Mariners shot 58% from beyond the arc in the second half to maintain separation.

In his first collegiate start freshman Sean Shore totaled 13 points, converting on three 3-pointers and grabbed five rebounds.

Entering this week, the Fire are averaging 83.8 points per game and allowing opponents to score only 71.5 a game. Their scoring margin of 12.3 is the 32nd best in the NAIA. SEU has also racked up 109 steals this season, ranking them 11th in the country.

Individually, guard Reggie Mesidor is averaging 15.08 PPG and is shooting 44.9% from the field. His 36 made 3-pointers is the 11th best mark in the NAIA.

Great Lakes Christian enters play this week with a 2-8 record and faces Keiser on Tuesday before traveling to Lakeland on Wednesday. The Crusaders are led by senior guards Trent Temple and Isiah Reed who are averaging 22 and 19 points per game, respectively. Opponents are scoring 86.9 points per game and shooting 48% from the field against the Crusaders. This will be the first time these two programs have met.

Webber International has gotten off to a 6-10 start to their season and have gone 2-4 against Sun Conference opponents. Losers of six of their last seven contests, the Warriors have a matchup against Ave Maria on Thursday before facing Southeastern. Webber ranks second in the NAIA with 135 steals and is led by Rasheem Etienne who has registered 34 steals so far this season. Etienne is also the assist leader for Webber, averaging 3.3 per contest.

The Fire improved to 14-9 all-time against Webber International with an 87-81 victory the last time these programs met. Forward Karl Jeanty had a nice day from the field in that one, totaling 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting and grabbed eleven rebounds.
