Men's Basketball Set for More Sun Conference Action

LAKELAND, Fla.—The Southeastern University men's basketball team is set for two more conference games this week when they host Warner University on Thursday, January 28th at 7:30 pm before hitting the road to take on Florida Memorial on Saturday, January 30th at 4:00 pm.

The Fire suffered three more conference losses a week ago, dropping games to Thomas (72-63), St. Thomas (63-54), and Keiser (90-71).

SEU took a lead into halftime against St. Thomas and Keiser but ran out of steam in the second half as the Bobcats and Seahawks found their rhythm on offense to pull away down the stretch.

Sophomore guard Reggie Mesidor continued to be a threat offensively as he averaged 20 points per game in the three contests and came four assists shy of a triple-double against Thomas. He shot 42.3% (11-26) from behind the arc and ranks fifth in the NAIA in total three's made with 57.

In conference play Mesidor is scoring 16.85 points per game and shooting 41.5% from 3-PT range, good for sixth and seventh in the conference.

The Fire remain one of the top rebounding teams in the country, ranking 13th with 770 rebounds.

Among conference opponents, Southeastern is third in scoring with 78.1 PPG and second in scoring defense allowing 71 PPG. Their average scoring margin of 6.95 ranks second in the conference behind Warner who has an average scoring margin of ten.

The Royals enter play this week atop the conference standings with an overall record of 11-3, going 9-3 in conference play. They are coming off an 80-73 win over St. Thomas and are winners of six of their last seven contests. Sophomore guard Rod Boggan leads the team with 17.4 points per game and is averaging 22.5 points against the Fire this season. The Royals won the two earlier matchups this year and lead the all-time series 16-10.

Florida Memorial (5-10, 5-7 TSC) has lost five of their last seven contests and face Warner and Webber International before hosting the Fire this weekend. Seniors Sam Mack and Mubashar Ali lead the Lions as Mack is the leading scorer with 15.86 points per game while Ali is behind him with 12.3 points per game and grabs 10.1 boards per game. The Lions escaped with a narrow 72-69 win the last time these squads met but the Fire still hold the edge in the all-time series 10-6.
