LAKELAND, Fla.—The Southeastern University wrestling program gets set for another Mid-South Conference matchup on Friday when they head to Mount Vernon, Georgia to take on Brewton Parker College.
The Fire dropped to 5-5 on the season and fell below .500 against conference opponents with their 37-6 loss to second-ranked Life University last weekend.
Adrian Ayala and
Alton Meeks won the lone two matches for Southeastern against Life. Ayala defeated Logan Sims in a 7-1 decision to improve to 7-2 on the season. Meeks took down the fifth-ranked 197-pound wrestler Diallo Matsimella in a 6-3 win by decision.
Brewton-Parker enters Friday with a 5-2 record on the season and have yet to drop a Mid-South dual. The 11
th ranked 133-pound wrestler Lucas Nelson leads the way for the Barons. The senior from Kingsland, Georgia is 2-2 when facing a Fire wrestler with his two losses at the hands of
Isaac Crowell and
Eddie Barrett.
Southeastern's lineup is set to feature six top-20 wrestlers in seventh ranked Crowell (125), 16
th ranked
Xavier Williamson (133), 18
th ranked
Jaquan English (149), 18
th ranked
Kyle Kirkham (165), and fifth ranked Meeks and 19
th ranked
Jesse Pryor at 285.
SEU is looking to maintain its perfect record against Brewton-Parker to improve to 7-0 versus the Barons. The Fire captured a 43-6 victory the last time these two programs met. Kirkham is the only returning wrestler from that dual when he defeated Douglas Peppers in a 9-3 decision.
The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 pm.
