LAKELAND, Fla.—The Southeastern University women's volleyball team is set to continue Sun Conference play this week when they host the Coastal Georgia Mariners on Wednesday, September 23
rd at 7:00 pm.
The Fire (1-3) were swept in their road match at Ave Maria last week 25-12, 25-12, 25-20. Southeastern couldn't get into rhythm when attacking as they finished with a -.023 hitting percentage. Junior
Maggie Seagren led the team with seven kills and chipped in six digs and three assists. Senior
Emily Boehlein led the team with three blocks and added four kills.
Boehlein leads the team so far this season with 38 kills and ten blocks. Other team leaders include
Fabianne Besosa with 59 digs,
Emily Eurice with 45 assists, and Lindsay Davis with five aces.
As a team, Southeastern ranks 46
th in the NAIA in total digs with 215 through the first four games of the season.
Coastal Georgia travels to Lakeland with a 1-2 overall record to start their 2020 campaign, having played Sun Conference opponents in all three matches. The Mariners haven't played since September 12
th when they lost at home to Keiser 3-1. A player to watch for Coastal Georgia is junior Giovana Larregui Lopez as she leads the Mariners in kills (51) and digs (34). Her 4.25 kills per game ranks 9
th in the NAIA.
The Fire will look to flip recent history as they've dropped their last four matches to Coastal Georgia with the all-time series at 6-9. The last time these two teams met was in the conference tournament when the Mariners swept the Fire 25-14, 25-20, 25-12. Boehlein led the Fire in this match with seven kills and added an assist, one block, and one dig.
