Following an impressive opening night win over Ave Maria, the Fire football team heads south for its first road game of the season.
Â
Southeastern was a 34-0 winner over Ave Maria at Victory Field last Saturday night in
Cesar Rivas-Sandoval's first game with the Fire.
Cooper Jones recorded his sixth game of 300 or more passing yards, finding
Eugene Witherspoon nine times for 130 yards and two touchdowns. On defense, the Fire limited AMU to 184 yards and recorded five sacks in the sixth shutout in program history.
Â
Jones was named the Mid-South Sun Division Offensive Player of the Week for the third time in his career. For Witherspoon, the nine catches were a career-best, and it was his fourth 100-yard game at Southeastern.
Â
Last week was the second consecutive season opener the defense did not allow a score, and the sixth shutout in program history. After a week of games in the NAIA, the Fire are first in points and yards allowed per game.
