LAKELAND, Fla. – After a week where they split two games with Webber International and St. Thomas, the Southeastern University women's volleyball team heads to Ave Maria for another match against a Sun Conference opponent.

Last week the Fire traveled to Babson Park to take on the Webber Warriors and came away with a 3-1 victory. Senior Emily Boehlein had a big day leading the Fire in kills (13) and digs (21) and added four assists and two aces. Junior Maggie Seagren impressed in her first start as a setter with 24 assists, eight digs and five kills. Junior Morgan Swanger and freshman Danielle White each added six kills in the winning effort.

Southeastern dropped their home opener to St. Thomas on Saturday 3-1. Boehlein and Seagren led the Fire again as Boehlein led the team with 13 kills while Seagren recorded 15 digs, 13 assists, and ten kills. Sophomore setter Emily Eurice had a season-high 19 assists and senior Lindsey Davis added seven kills, seven digs, and three aces.

The Fire will look to get back in the win column against the Ave Maria Gyrenes who will enter play this week with a 1-1 record and visit Florida National before hosting the Fire. The Gyrenes are coming off a win in which they swept the reigning Sun Conference tournament champions Florida Memorial Lions. Players to watch for the Gyrenes are senior Erica Chenard and sophomore Katie Grose. Chenard leads the team in aces (5) and blocks (14). Grose leads Ave Maria with 67 assists and ranks 18th in the NAIA with 9.57 assists per game.

The Fire split two regular season matchups with the Gyrenes last season but came away with a 3-0 sweep in the Sun Conference quarterfinals in the postseason. In that match, Boehlein recorded ten kills and added a block.
