Fire Softball Wins First Two TSC Games Of The Season

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - In the opening doubleheader of Sun Conference action, the Southeastern softball team swept St. Thomas, taking game one 4-2 before taking down the Bobcats 2-0 in the series finale.

GAME ONE:

The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the third inning, when the Bobcats put one on the board after hitting a sacrifice fly to center field.

The fourth inning was a big one for the Fire, as they brought in all four runs in the top half of the inning. A couple of miscues from the Bobcats defense helped the Fire score the first two runs, taking the lead 2-1.

Whittney Purdy and Ramsey Sullivan both hit singles to reach on base. A two RBI triple hit by Britt Robinson brought home Purdy and Sullivan, extending SEU's lead to 4-1.

In the bottom of the fourth, an RBI bunt single helped STU cut the deficit to two.

Although Southeastern scored four runs, the Fire recorded a total of 11 hits in game one. Sullivan went a perfect 3-3 with one RBI.

Sophomore pitcher Peyton Varela earned her fourth win on the season as she pitched all seven innings for SEU.

GAME TWO:

The Fire were the first team to strike in the top of the second frame as Kaley Sarasty hit a triple down the right field line to reach on base. Senior, Purdy helped Sarasty cross home plate as she hit a sacrifice fly to the right field, putting SEU on the board.

The game remained 1-0 for the Fire until the top half of the seventh.

An RBI double to left center field from Robinson brought home pinch runner Hannah Federico and helped SEU extend their lead to 2-0.

Southeastern tallied another seven hits on the day. Left fielder Robinson went 3-3 with one RBI and two doubles.

Freshman pitcher Megan Froehlich pitched all seven innings for the Fire, registering three strikeouts and only allowing one walk.

Southeastern will be back in action on March 11th as they another conference doubleheader against Keiser in West Palm Beach, Fla.
