LAKELAND, Fla.- The Fire continue to impress in singles' play, as the No. 21 Southeastern University women's tennis team took all six singles' points to defeat the Grace College Lancers 6-1 at the Woodlake Tennis Complex.
After dropping the top line of doubles, sophomores
Priscila Baptista and
Mia Dunagan made it even with a 7-5 victory at line three.
Ultimately Grace took the doubles' point, earning a 7-1 tiebreaker victory at the second spot.
The Fire responded with a stupendous performance in singles' play, sweeping all six lines and not dropping more than three games in any set.
Junior
Angelique Myrtil even up the match 1-1 with a two-set win (6-2, 6-3) at the fourth line. Senior
Sharienne Ricardo put the Fire ahead 2-1 with a pair of 6-2 sets at the top line.
Baptista was the next Fire finisher, topping her opponent at the fifth position in two sets (6-3, 6-2).
Freshman
Nadezda Bijelic clinched the match for Southeastern with a two-set win at line three (6-3, 6-2), putting the Fire ahead 4-1.
Dunagan and sophomore
Beatrice Letizia also earned two-set wins at the sixth and second lines respectively.
The Fire continue non-conference play this week, as they and the RV SEU men's team host the Judson University Eagles on Wednesday. Match time at the Beerman Family Tennis Complex is set for 12:00 p.m.
