Fire Defeat Blue Devils to Claim 25th-Straight Victory

LAKELAND, Fla.- The No. 1 Southeastern University baseball team won their 25th-straight contest this afternoon, as they defeated the Lawrence Technological University Blue Devils 6-1. The Fire improved to 26-1 on the season with the win.

The Fire scored four of their six runs through the first three innings of play. Senior outfielder Carter Bridge put SEU on the board with a solo home run in the bottom of the second inning. The Blue Devils responded with a solo home run of their own in the top of the third to tie things up 1-1.
Southeastern retaliated with a four-run inning in the bottom of the third. First, senior first baseman Colton Onstott drove home Abdel Guadalupe and Zach Cornell with a two-RBI single to right field.

Later in the frame, junior shortstop Sam Faith hit his fifth homer of the season, a two-run shot to right-center to give the Fire a 5-1 lead.

Junior right-handed pitcher Ronnie Voacolo tossed a complete game for the Fire. In nine innings of work, Voacolo allowed four hits, just the one run off the homer, walked none, and struck out six batters.

Junior Nolan Machibroda tacked on another for SEU in the bottom of the eighth with a pinch-hit RBI single through the left side that brought Blake Buckman home and gave the Fire a 6-1 advantage.

With The Sun Conference suspending play of all spring sports, the earliest the Fire could potentially return to action is Friday, March 27.
