Box Score 2 WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.—Sacrifice flies got the job done for Keiser in a doubleheader sweep of the Southeastern softball team during Wednesday's Sun Conference doubleheader.
Keiser walked off on SEU in Game 1, 2-1 and took Game 2 by the count of 3-0.
In the first game of the day, the Fire had a 1-0 lead when
Whittney Purdy drove in a run in the top of the fifth with a groundout. The Seahawks capitalized on an SEU error in the sixth to tie the game and force extras.
In the eighth, Keiser got a sacrifice fly from Cheyenne Blumberg to win the game.
Senior second baseman
Sam Holcomb was responsible for two of SEU's four hits.
Peyton Varela threw 7.2 innings, allowing no earned runs on four hits with two walks and five strikeouts.
In the second game, Keiser got on the board with a sacrifice fly to center in the bottom of the second. Keiser added another in the fourth on a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0.
The best chance for Southeastern came in the fifth when
Madison Williams doubled with one out and stole third. A walk to Holcomb gave the Fire two on with two out, but a groundout ended the threat.
Keiser made it 3-0 with yet another sacrifice fly in the bottom half of the inning.
The Fire also got two on in the sixth, but a strikeout and a fly out ended the threat.
Madison Williams and Purdy were both 2-for-3 in Game 2.
Southeastern returns home to face USCB on Saturday.
