Softball Wins Three of First Four at NFCA Leadoff Classic

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 COLUMBUS, Ga.—The Fire softball team has won seven of its last eight games, including three of four at the NFCA Leadoff Classic.

On Friday, Southeastern defeated Georgetown 2-1, and lost a 2-1 game to No. 7 Mobile. The Fire went 2-0 on Saturday with a 7-1 win over Thomas More and a 6-3 win over Reinhardt, which is receiving votes in the preseason coaches' poll.

A two-out walk-off double in the bottom of the seventh by Britt Robinson gave the Fire the win over Georgetown in the first game of the weekend. The hit was the first of the game by Southeastern.

A pair of hit by pitches and a pair of walks produced a run in the bottom of the first and the Fire had the bases loaded with one out, but a strikeout and lineout ended the threat. The game was tied in the third with a solo home run, which was the only hit allowed by Megan Froehlich in the game. The freshman earned the win, striking out four.

Southeastern led Mobile 1-0 after three, but the Rams responded with an unearned run in the fourth, and added a run in the sixth to come up with the win.

Peyton Varela was 4-for-4 at the plate to help SEU knock off Thomas More and Ramsey Sullivan came up with a pair of RBIs.

Sam Holcomb added two RBIs on two hits in the leadoff spot in the victory over Reinhardt. A five-run third helped the Fire pick up their eighth win of the season.

Southeastern will close out its stay in Columbus with a game Sunday morning against Lawrence Tech at 9 a.m.
