Softball Heads to Winter Haven for RussMat

LAKELAND, Fla. - The Southeastern softball women's softball team returns to action this week as it travels to Winter Haven, Fla. to take on Olivet Nazarene University and Roosevelt University at the RussMatt Tournament.

The Fire:
  • Southeastern dropped the first doubleheader of the 2020 season to Florida National. SEU lost the first game 11-9 after competing in 12 innings, and lost the second 3-1 in a game shortened due to darkness.
  • Hannah Bonner leads the team with four RBI's. Bonner also leads SEU with four hits in seven at bats, including one home run in the first game against FNU.
  • After two games played, four SEU players are batting over .370. Leading the team is senior Bonner as she is batting .571. Following her is: Whittney Purdy (.500), Sam Holcomb (.375), and Kaley Sarasty (.375).
  • 2019 First-Team All-Sun Conference selection Bailee Moll hit her first home run of the season against FNU. Moll is second on the Fire with three RBIs. 

The Tigers:
  • Olivet Nazarene have won five of six contests thus far. The Tigers' one loss on the season was to Madonna (Mich.) in a close 2-1 game.
  • Leading the team in hitting is Felicia Wacasey, as she is batting .474. Wacasey has hit the ball nine times out of 19 at bats.
  • Junior Alli Davis leads the team with eight RBIs and two stolen bases. 
  • The Tigers are ranked third in the nation with four total triples. Four ONU players have hit one triple each.
  • Six individuals on the team are hitting over a .310 batting average, which includes Wacasey, Davis, and Kailyn Ngo.
  • Freshman pitcher, Kayla Hon has recorded a total of 16 strikeouts in six contests.

The Lakers:
  • Roosevelt is 1-5 overall on the season, their one victory on the season thus far comes from an 8-0 win over the University of Michigan-Dearborn at home.
  • The Lakers have a busy upcoming weekend as they play a total of seven games in three days. RU will compete against Sun Conference opponents, Warner and Webber International.
  • Senior, Caitlyn Santiago leads the team with a batting average of .412. Santiago has seven hits out of a total 17 at bats. 
  • Leading the team in RBIs is freshman infielder, Reyann Kruger with five total.
  • Aisley Njissang is the only one to have hit a home run thus far for the Lakers.
