LAKELAND, Fla.—It's been over 35 years since the last time the state of Florida had the ability to have multiple collegiate wrestling teams participating in a single duals tournament.
That streak ends tomorrow morning.
Southeastern will play host to Keiser University and St. Thomas University which have both followed SEU's lead in starting college wrestling programs over the last two seasons.
The Fire are in their sixth season of competition and have steadily rose to one of the top NAIA programs. SEU is currently fifth in the NAIA Coaches' Poll with 10 wrestlers ranked in their respective weight classes.
Two weeks ago, Southeastern went 1-1 during the Fire Duals, knocking off Keiser after a loss to No. 3 Reinhardt.
Keiser is in its second season of competition and is currently 0-2 after losing to Southeastern and Reinhardt at The Furnace on November 21
st. Kenel Jean Pierre was the lone match winner that day for the Seahawks, winning by injury default at 174. He won a pair of matches during the Life U. Invitational to start the season, falling in the consolation semifinals.
This is the first year for wrestling at St. Thomas which dropped its first two duals at Truett McConnell and against Midway. At 133, Nick Foster picked up a pin and a second period tech fall. Drake Campbell also went 2-0 on the day with a second period fall and a 12-7 decision.
Action begins at 10 a.m. with SEU and Keiser. At 11:15, Keiser will face St. Thomas. The final match at 12:30 will feature the Fire and St. Thomas.
