Volleyball Heads Into Last Week of Regular Season

Lakeland, Fla.- This week the Southeastern University volleyball team will compete in their final regular season matches of the season as they travel to Miami Gardens to take on St. Thomas University on Tuesday at 4 p.m. The Fire will then have a quick turn around and compete against the Keiser University Seahawks for their final home game of the season on Wednesday at 1 p.m.
 
The Fire have not seen outside competition since October 28th when they lost in the three sets to College of Coastal Georgia. Senior Maggie Seagren led the Fire against the Mariners with 11 kills and 9 digs while Emily Boehlein and Jordyn Stiger each recorded six kills. Ashtyn O'Shea registered 15 assists and Emily Eurice recorded 10 of her own. Fabianne Besosa led the Fire defense with 13 digs.
 
Currently holding a record of 4-9 and 1-8 in conference play, the Fire are averaging 10 kills per set and 8.9 assists per set. Defensively, blocking has been the strong point for the Fire as they have outdone their opponents with 68 blocks and 1.5 per set. Seagren has been the offensive and defensive catalyst for the Fire seeing time in multiple positions. She has recorded 80 kills which ranks second on the team behind Boehelin's 120 and also has registered 43 assists and 143 digs which also ranks second on the Fire behind Besosa's 220 digs. Boehlein has continued to prove her worth to the Fire leading the team in kills.
 
The first competition this week will serve as a rematch for the Fire from their previous meeting with the Bobcats this season where the Bobcats took the 3-1 victory. History has proven these two teams to be evenly matched with an overall record of 5-4 in favor of the Fire. The Bobcats are 8-6 on the season (6-6 TSC) and have outhit their opponents with 625 total kills, 12.3 per set. Offensively, STU is led by Arianna Bolinger who has recorded a team high 206 kills, 101 more than her nearest teammate.
 
The Fire and the Seahawks last competed earlier this season on October 3rd when the Seahawks took the victory over the Fire in three matches closing the historical record gap to 7-4 in favor of the Fire. The Seahawks have been the team to beat in the Sun Conference this year coming in with a perfect 15-0 record including 11 conference wins. They currently hold an attack percentage of .310 as opposed to their competitor's .112 with 780 digs, 678 assists and 104 blocks. Abbie Seward has been the leading offensive force with 231 kills.
